MONROE - School is canceled Friday for all Monroe students as the Monroe High School girls basketball team travels to Green Bay for the WIAA Division 2 state semifinals.
The cancellation will allow all students, staff, parents and other community members to attend the game to support the Cheesemakers when they play Beaver Dam on Friday afternoon at the Resch Center.
According to a statement from the Monroe school district, the cancellation will push the final day of the school year to June 9, assuming no additional school days are canceled.
Tickets to the game, which begins at 3:15 p.m. Friday, went on sale Tuesday at the high school office. The tickets cost $10 per person and will be sold from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Thursday.
"We encourage everyone who is going to buy their tickets at the high school," Monroe Activities Director Jeff Newcomer said. "The Resch Center is holding a contest, an award of $2,000 will go to the school that sells the most tickets of their allotment."
Sign-up sheets will be available this week for students who wish to take a bus to the game. Only high school students will be able to take the bus. The cost is $20, which includes a game ticket and the ride. The bus will depart at 10 a.m. Friday.
