Destruction of several traffic signs between Albany and Brodhead remains a mystery to law enforcement officials.

GREEN COUNTY — Over a week after Green County deputies found sawed-off traffic signs along a road between Albany and Brodhead, the destruction remains a mystery.

The damage was reported at about 9 p.m. Aug. 24 along County E.

“We got sent out to what we thought was a collision between a vehicle and a sign,” said Chief Deputy Tom Moczynski.

Instead, the traffic signs appeared to have been cut with a chainsaw halfway up the post, with the signs left lying in the ditch. Deputies located three cut signs at the intersection with Atkinson Road and five more elsewhere along County E.

All eight signposts had to be replaced by the county highway department, at a cost of $50-$60 each.

The damage was “definitely” intentional, Moczynski said. “It’s very bizarre.”
