No danger, but damage to Albany dam

ALBANY - Excess water from recent rains has caused minor damage to the portage area above the dam in Albany.

There isn't any danger of it getting worse and boaters and canoers can still use the area.

Village Clerk Laurie Keepers said the village's Public Works Department discovered water under the cement of the portage area Tuesday. Inspectors were called in to assess the damage.

It was determined that a tube put in the dam area when work was done in 1996 should be opened to relieve pressure at the dam. That was done Tuesday, Keepers said.

Work will be done over the next few days to fill in any washed away ground near the portage area, she added.
