NEW GLARUS - New Glarus residents will be asked to approve an $11.3 million budget at its annual meeting Sept. 29.
That represents an increase of about 3 percent over last year's budget of about $10.9 million, said Business Manager Tammy Marty. The school board approved the proposed budget Monday.
The tax levy is estimated to be $4,082,549, down slightly from last year's levy of $4,088,755. Marty said the levy estimate is based on an assumed 5 percent increase in equalized value within the district.
The tax rate is estimated to be $9.78 per $1,000 of valuation, down from last year's $10.28.
Marty said the budget reflects "substantial" increases for utilities and vehicle fuel, but otherwise only modest increases across the board. The teachers' salary and benefits package increased 4 percent.
