BRODHEAD - A new parking ordinance took effect in Brodhead Tuesday after a change in the city's winter parking requirements.
The revised ordinance prohibits vehicles from parking on any public street or alley when there is 2 inches of snowfall or more from Nov. 1 to March 31.
The revisions altered the parking restrictions to a universal ordinance that applies to all streets in the city, when the city previously had two different restrictions for downtown and non-downtown areas. In addition, parking restrictions now take effect one month before the previous start date.
The previous restrictions prohibited drivers to park in the city's business district from 2:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. during winter months, which caused confusion when drivers were ticketed without any snowfall.
In addition, city residents who own a semi truck can only park their trucks at their residence between Oct. 1 and April 1 with a permit from the police department. To obtain the permit, residents must notify neighbors within 70 feet of the property, the public works department and city utilities.
Trucks must also be parked on a gravel or paved driveway.
