MADISON — The Green County child porn case against a Juda man will be heard by a Dane County judge.

Shad Joseph Hanson, 21, waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Judge Josann Reynolds in Dane County Circuit Court in Madison on July 17. Hanson is out on a $20,000 signature bond and faces six Class C felony counts of child sexual exploitation and nine Class D felony counts of possessing child pornography.

The assignment of Reynolds to the case came after Green County Judge Thomas Vale recused himself from the case. Vale asked for the recusal because he is “familiar with the defendant and his family,” according to court documents.

The case was then assigned to the other Green County judge, James Beer, but Hanson and his attorney successfully applied for a substitution and were assigned Reynolds. A reason for the substitution request was not included in documents.

Hanson is represented by Jacob Manian, a former Milwaukee County district attorney currently in private practice with the law firm Fox, O’Neill & Shannon in Milwaukee. He specializes in criminal defense, commercial transactions and civil litigation.

Hanson is next in court Aug. 20 for a pre-trial conference. The criminal complaint, based on analysis of seized computer devices and subpoenas of Hanson’s online accounts, alleges he shared sexually explicit photos and videos involving prepubescent children as young as toddlers.

His conditions of bond include no direct or indirect contact with children and no access to social media.
