NEW GLARUS - A man tried to enter a New Glarus woman's home last week, claiming he worked for the New Glarus Police Department.

The woman refused to let him in and contacted the police department about the incident Sunday.

New Glarus Police Chief Steve Allbaugh said the man doesn't work for the department.

Allbaugh said the woman described the man as about 6 feet, 1 inch tall, in his late 20s or early 30s with noticeable acne.

"She didn't see a squad car and he didn't have any patches or a badge to show that he was a police officer," Allbaugh said.

According to the complaint, the woman said a man called her and identified himself as a police officer and said he was following up on a complaint. He later showed up at her door. The man was dressed in dark blue clothing.

Allbaugh said an officer from the department would have a badge and patches on his clothing to show that he worked for the department. He also would give his name.

Allbaugh said anyone who questions if an officer works for the department should contact the Green County Sheriff's Department at 328-9400.

Anyone with information about the man claiming to be an officer can contact the New Glarus Police Department at 527-2145.
