MONROE - Charges were formally filed Friday against a New Glarus resident accused of molesting an underage girl for three years.

Matthew Thomas Ingham, 31, faces a Class B felony count of first-degree sexual assault of a child, a Class C felony count of repeated sexual assault of the same child and a related Class C felony.

Ingham was charged after an underage girl told a Dane County Human Services agent on June 21 that Ingham had sexually assaulted her at residences in New Glarus and Belleville since 2014.

The girl said Ingham would tell her to sit on his lap, where he would rub her breasts and grope her genitals.

Ingham was arrested on July 26 and posted $1,000 and signed a $9,000 signature bond with conditions that he have no contact with the girl or anyone younger than 18 or possess or use any computer hardware or recording device.

Ingham's maximum possible sentence is 55 years in prison.
