JANESVILLE — Blackhawk Technical College announces new Blackhawk Scholars recipients. The program, launched in spring 2020, is an earn-and-learn program in partnership with business and industry, to recruit, educate and graduate students in manufacturing fields where workforce shortages exist. Students simultaneously work and learn on the job and in the classroom.
Through this program, students can expect to:
● gain the skills necessary to excel in today’s business world
● receive valuable, on-the-job work experience related to their field of study
● advance their education within their chosen field and earn their degree
● attend classes through a variety of flexible delivery options
● potentially secure a rewarding, well-paying career with an area employer after graduation
The program has demonstrated significant benefits for students and employers. “Students are not having to incur debt to pursue a degree. They are earning a living while furthering their education thanks to our employer partners,” said Colleen Koerth, Manager of Workforce Development at Blackhawk Technical College. “Additionally, students can apply what they are learning directly in the workplace.”
Colleen continued, “These businesses represent our premier employer partners. They support the education and career goals of their employees while simultaneously building the talent pipeline.”
Blackhawk Scholars must be enrolled at Blackhawk Technical College as a part- or full-time student (must be at least 18 years old) in one of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (AMTC) degree programs, and successfully maintain a 2.5 GPA or better throughout the program.
