MONROE - Tucked away between Flanagan's Shenanigans and the Garden Deli on 11th Street, a new men's clothing store has sprouted up and seeks to serve the fashion sensibilities of businessmen and teenagers alike.

Max's Threads opened its doors a couple of weeks before Christmas, the store's owner Amanda Wendler said. She coined the name from her 11-year-old son Max Haffele.

The store offers men's clothing in a variety of styles. Workout clothes, polo shirts, jeans and pearl snap collared shirts are just a few of the options. "We are trying to make it so people don't have to go to Madison for clothes," Wendler said.

Wendler said she has not begun stocking suits or ties but hopes to soon.

"Just look at how many doctors and lawyers work downtown," she said. "Monroe has been really lacking anything for men."

Wendler said she has to juggle about five jobs and opening a business. She works for her husband and Fib's in Brodhead as well.

She said she has tried to find quality inventory but at a price that the average Monroe man could afford. "No one here is going to pay $150 for a pair of blue jeans."

The counters are tin and the color scheme is muted reds and blues with an affinity for mustaches. There are several framed pictures of different styles of mustaches around the shop.

"I thought about getting some polos done with mustaches on the pocket, and it could be like our uniform," she said.

Housed in the building at 1113 16th Ave., Wendle said it has been hard for people to tell if she is open because there is no sign for the store yet. "Hopefully we will get a sign by March, but we hope to have our grand opening in April," she said.

The store is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
