JANESVILLE - Leaders from Blackhawk Technical College and Madison College have signed a comprehensive and far-reaching transfer agreement that will help BTC students pursue new career pathways, reduce college costs and potentially speed up their time to degree completion. The agreement, recently approved by the BTC Board of Trustees will make it possible for BTC students to pursue an Association in Arts or Associate in Science degree in Madison College's Liberal Arts transfer program.
Under the agreement, Green and Rock county residents can take general education courses in their first year at BTC and then transition to Madison to complete the degree. The agreement is effective immediately and will be reviewed every five years.
According to the Madison College website, by completing an AA or AS degree, students typically satisfy the first two years of general education requirements for four-year colleges and universities and obtain an educational foundation in English, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences and world languages.
BTC's agreement with Madison College was one of two transfer partnerships approved by the BTC board meeting Jan. 17. Blackhawk also amended its existing reciprocal agreement with Highland Community College that provides students in both districts the opportunity to enroll in approved programs at the other college without having to pay out-of-district fees. The agreement, which has been in place since 2013, was updated to reflect new or eliminated programs and to create a pathway to the Associate of Arts and Associate of Science similar to the one established at Madison College.
Blackhawk offers more than 70 program-specific, four-year transfer agreements and 12 general agreements. For more information about transfer opportunities at BTC, go to blackhawk.edu or contact Melissa Lantta, Student Pathways Coordinator, at 608-757-7708 or mlantta@blackhawk.edu.
