MONROE - Green County residents have a unique opportunity to witness a military swearing-in ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday, on the Green County Courthouse lawn.
After 21 years of service, Navy Counselor Senior Chief Tory J. Schutte will be sworn in for an additional two-year term.
He has asked his father, George Schutte, Monroe, to perform the swearing in.
George Schutte, a Navy veteran himself, served on the USS Pennsylvania during World War II.
Schutte joined the Navy under the Delayed Entry Program while he was a senior at Monroe High School. He went in to active duty Aug. 8, 1988.
"I was following in my father's footsteps," he said of his decision to join the military.
Schutte is assigned as the senior command trainer with the Navy Recruiting District in Chicago.
Schutte doesn't know where he will be assigned after his new tour starts.
"I'm up for orders," he said.
Schutte lives in Lake Geneva, and is married to his wife, Brenda, of Monroe. They have three children, Tyler, 15; Trevor, 13, and Heather, 11.
During his military service, Schutte has worked in various platforms including sea, overseas, shore duty, aircraft carrier, guided missile destroyers and cruisers, aviation squadrons (helicopter), and many recruiting commands across the nation.
