Walnut Grove Cheese Factory located at Route 1, Blanchardville, west of Postville, is pictured at a time when patrons (farmers) delivered their milk by horse and wagon. The milk was brought to the factory for Swiss cheese production in 30 gallon cans, which were lifted to the intake window by means of rope and iron hook resembling a large ice hook. Cheesemakers at the Walnut Grove Factory included Jacob Alder, Karl Niederman and Alfred Aebersold. Questions or comments may be directed to Mary Ann Hanna at 608-325-4324 or nhcchistory@yahoo.com.
