National Historic Cheesemaking Center: 1933 Turn und Schwing Club

At the end of a long, hard day, area cheesemakers and residents found time for relaxation and fitness. In 1863, the Monroe Turn Verein was chartered in Monroe, expressing the desire for a building (i.e. Turner Hall) to host the 4th Annual Festival of the State Gymnastic Association. The club remained active through the mid-1990s, becoming Monroe Swiss - American Gymnastics Association. Members of the 1933 Turn und Schwing Club were identified as follows: Row 1: Jake Rattin, Walter Lauper, Gust Schmid, Reinhard Mueller, Charlie Winters, Julius Hofer, Ernest Mike Prisig.
