MONROE - It's the year 1912 and the place is River City, Iowa.
When Professor Harold Hill, a travelling con artist posing as a salesman of musical instruments, hops off the train in this little Midwestern town, he thinks he's about to make some easy money. All he has to do is convince the townsfolk they need a boys marching band for the good of the town's youth, get their hard-earned money and be on his way before they find out he's a fraud. But what Harold Hill doesn't know is that the people of River City and this town are very different from all the others he's passed through.
