MONROE - The first session of the Monroe Theatre Guild's Youth Choirs will culminate in a concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall at Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St., Monroe.
MTG's first session of youth choirs began five weeks ago with rehearsals twice weekly at MTG's downtown facility. Under the direction of Cindy Blanc, Monroe Theatre Guild's Youth Choirs are dedicated to fostering the development and enjoyment of choral music in young people. Its purposes, in harmony with MTG goals, are to create a community of young singers dedicated to musical excellence, inspire enjoyment and enhance music education while nurturing personal, musical and social development through the study and performance of choral literature. MTG Youth Choirs offer youth between the ages of 8 and 18 the opportunity to participate in one of two choral groups based on age. The curriculum is presented in an environment of sharing, growth and recreation and allows an opportunity to learn musical discipline, build self-confidence, foster teamwork and provide constructive musical activity.
Choir members have been learning some standard choral repertoire and rehearsal techniques during the sessions. Future MTG Youth Choir classes are planned.
Members of the MTG Junior Choir are Joel Faith, Natalie Faith, Emilee Miller, Katie Miller, Emma Guenther, Izzy Driver, Ruth Joy Tuttle, Christina Tuttle, Stephanie Sanft, Brock Carvajalio, Bailey Hoesly, Daniella Larraga, Emily Gerrits and Ali Swenson.
The junior singers will perform several traditional partner songs and some three-part selections. Concert selections include "This Ol Man," "Jacob's Ladder," "The Orchestra Song" and "All Night, All Day/Swing Low, Sweet Chariot."
Members of the MTG Senior Choir are Madeline McGrane, Rosie Bauman, Amy Whiteman, Vincent Wartenweiler, Eleanor Nesimoglu, Allie Rose Flees-Husain, Ingrid Kallgren, Callie Bristow, Heidi Blanc-Blum and Tashona Brown.
