MONROE - Monroe Theatre Guild, 910 16th Ave., will present John Van Druten's comedy "Bell, Book, and Candle" from Friday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22 and from Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20; Saturday, Sept. 21; Friday, Sept. 27; and Saturday, Sept. 28, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 29.

The play tracks the story of Gillian Holroyd, one of the few modern people who can cast spells and perform feats of supernaturalism. She casts a spell over an unattached publisher, Shepherd Henderson, partly to keep him away from a rival and partly because she is attracted to him. He falls head over heels in love with her and wants to marry her. But witches cannot fall in love, which leads to a number of difficulties. The play was adapted into the 1958 film starring James Stewart and Kim Novak.

The cast features Amy Zwicker as Gillian, Dale Ripley as Shepherd, Andy Rocheleau as Nicky, Denise Plantenberg as Queenie, Rick Maliszewski as Sidney Redlitch and Camaro, a black cat, as Pyewacket.

Tickets to the show are $11 through $13 for Monroe Theatre Guild members and $13 through $15 for non-members. Tickets are available by calling 608-325-1111, emailing at monroetheatre@tds.net, online at www.monroetheatre.com or in-person at the Monroe Theatre Guild.
