MONROE - "Rumors," a farce by Neil Simon, opens Friday at Monroe Theatre Guild.
The play opens as four couples arrive at a party to celebrate the tenth wedding anniversary of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife. The guests soon discover there are no servants, the hostess is missing and the deputy mayor has shot himself in the earlobe and is unconscious. No one knows what has happened, but given everyone's upperclass status, they decide to conceal the evening's events from the local police and the media. By the end they are all complicit in a cover-up that no one really understands.
Katie McIlvanie is the director.
Evening performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 11, 17 and 18. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 and 19 in the MTG Theater, 910 16th Ave. A free opening night reception with refreshments starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
