MONROE - An act of vandalism at Monroe High School that closed all of the city's public schools on April 17 remains unsolved.
Meanwhile, district parents must register with the Monroe school district by Monday to participate in a new emergency notification program at the beginning of the school year.
Green County Crime Stoppers still is seeking information about the vandalism event. Sometime after 11 p.m. April 16, damage was done to several doors and windows at the high school. It is believed an air gun or sling shot or a blunt force object was used.
Several thousands of dollars of damage was reported and all district schools were closed for the day April 17. The closures forced the district school year to be extended to June 12.
Several tips have been received, but the case hasn't been solved.
Anyone with information can contact Green County Crime Stoppers at (800) 422-7463.
Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible for up to $1,000 in cash rewards.
The vandalism incident, as well as evacuations related to threats at both Monroe High School and Monroe Middle School also led to the district purchasing a rapid response communication system. The AlertNow notification service allows the district to send telephone or e-mail messages about school events or emergencies.
District Superintendent Larry Brown said in a letter to parents this week that an information verification form needs to be filled out and returned to the district by Aug. 17 to give the district time to input data before school starts.
The district directed those who have questions or problems to call Cathy Timm at 328-7528.
