When the 1860 two-story frame school burned in 1884 a one-story building was erected at the same site. This was Monticello's Northside School where the third- through sixth-graders attended. It was later converted into a service garage which burned in 1928. This site was on Monticello's E. Coates Avenue, near the Swiss Heritage Cheese factory property.
