32nd street construction

MONROE — The street work project scheduled for 31st and 32nd Avenues on Monroe’s far east side will ramp up beginning next week, Monday, August 18. The project first includes the reconstruction of 32nd Avenue, 31st Avenue and 8 1/2 street near Northside Elementary School.

“This project is broken up into two phases with the first phase being 31st and 32nd Avenue from 10th Street to 6-1/2 Street” said Al Gerber, Director of Public Works for Monroe. “This will include new sewer and water main from 11th Street to 6 1/2 Street, new curb and gutter and sidewalk construction.”

The first phase of the total street project is scheduled to be complete by November. The second phase, 31st Avenue from 13th Street to 10th Street, will include new water main, storm sewer, curb and gutter, and sidewalk.

“This second phase is planned to start in early spring and to be complete by the end of April 2026,” Gerber said.

During the first phase, the B&S development is building a new 6 1/2 Street around the south side of the well on the Northside School property.

“H James is the General contractor for the City. They will be starting on 32nd Avenue at 6 1/2 Street with the installation of sanitary sewer on August 18,” Gerber said.

Voegeli Landscaping will be starting August 4 with the installation of erosion control fence and brush clearing and designated tree removals. The majority of the tree and brush removal is along the south side of 8 1/2 Street and the east side of 31st Avenue at 8 1/2 Street.  There is some brush removal at the end of 6 1/2 Street at 32nd Avenue. There were two trees to be removed along 10th Street at 29th Avenue and 30th Avenue in preparation for a future sidewalk.
