MONROE - A Monroe woman was charged Tuesday with theft after she was discovered to have embezzled more than $14,000 from a disability advocacy group.

Brenda Lee Miller, 49, faces a Class G felony count of theft from a business setting after a series of incidents in 2016.

Miller, who was the treasurer of the Green County branch of disability advocacy group ARC, made six illicit withdrawals from ARC's checking account at the Woodford State Bank in Monroe from August to September 2016.

Beginning on Aug. 16, Miller withdrew $2,000 from the ARC's account. From then until Sept. 19, Miller withdrew from the account sums ranging from $400 to $5,000.

Miller eventually withdrew a total of $14,100 from ARC's account.

Shortly thereafter, police were contacted about the unauthorized withdrawals. Security footage at the Woodford State Bank showed Miller making the transactions.

Nick Faessler, president of ARC of Green County, said Miller no longer represents ARC.

Miller's initial appearance is scheduled for Feb. 13. If found guilty, she faces a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison or a fine of up to $25,000.
