On Monday, Sept. 14, the Monroe School Board:
Approved a contract with First Student, the busing company that transports district students. Under the terms of the contract, the school district will pay First Student almost $600,000 to transport students in the district. This represents an increase of about 3 percent over last year. The contract figure includes $196 for each regular bus route per day, and $236 per day for each Special Education route. First Student will pay its own diesel fuel costs; if the price it pays in any month exceeds $1.88 per gallon, the district will also pay an additional $1 per route per day for each 10 cents above $1.88. For transportation outside of normal daily routes, such as for field trips and co-curriculars, the district will pay $15.63 per hour and $1.25 per mile, with a minimum charge of $45.
Learned the district is conducting a Tactical Site Survey at each of the schools. A team comprised of administrators, the building principal, a building teacher, the building custodian, support staff and representatives of the police and fire departments will tour each building on selected dates from Oct. 6 through Nov. 10. Superintendent Larry Brown said the purpose of the site visits is to look at issues regarding student safety and emergency management procedures. After visiting each building, the district will be able to set priorities for any updating that needs to be done.
Hired Sharon Picket as cafeteria worker; accepted the resignation of Louise Tindle as tray washer at Monroe Middle School; and accepted a donation of school supplies from Monroe Clinic/Hospital Medical Imaging Department.
