MONROE - The Monroe School Board on Monday, Oct. 12:

• Approved a photocopy machine lease agreement that could save the district about $5,000 per month. The district has had a lease agreement with Gordon Flesch Company, Madison, for many years, and the current lease agreement runs about $13,000 per month. After accepting and reviewing proposals from several other companies, the school board voted to enter a new five-year lease with Rhyme, based in Janesville. The lease agreement will cost $6,888 per month, which includes all equipment, maintenance and supplies, Business Manager Ron Olson said. It was the lowest proposal offered for new copiers. The district will have to pay $98,000 to end its Gordon Flesch lease, which has 10 months remaining. Rhyme's proposal included buying out the Gordon Flesch lease, but that would cost the district about $2,000 more per month. Olson said the district does not have the $98,000 budgeted, but could find the money as it would save considerable interest. School board member Bob Erb agreed, saying "It doesn't make sense to pay $26,000 in interest when we don't have to." The lease covers copiers for the entire district.

• Hired Mary Ripp as tray washer for Parkside Elementary School and Nikolina Heimann as tray washer for Monroe Middle School.
