MONROE - At a meeting Oct. 26, the Monroe school board:
Recognized Mary Grinnell, Monroe High School secretary, who was chosen for the October Lamp of Learning Staff Excellence Award.
Hired new support staff members: Elizabeth Martin, special education driver, and Melissa Dickson, Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy.
Accepted a $4,000 donation from AT&T for the MHS Link Crew.
Gave final approval to 24 minor policy reviews, revisions and deletions.
Approved the 2015-16 Employee Handbook. Before being brought to the school board, changes to the handbook were reviewed by leadership in the Monroe Association of Support Staff and the Monroe Education Association, as well as the Employee Relations Committee, according to District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner.
Board members Mary Berger and Michael Boehme were absent.
MONROE - At a meeting Oct. 26, the Monroe school board's finance committee discussed the possibility of using BoardDocs, a cloud-based management system for governing bodies. BoardDocs allows members of a board to access agendas and other shared resources across multiple devices through a web browser.
"It's definitely intriguing, both for efficiency and time-savings," Hirsbrunner said.
The "Paperless Governance Solution" offers two versions: BoardDocs LT and BoardDocs Pro. The LT version costs less and doesn't provide as many features as the Pro version. Both require a startup fee of $1,000 and a yearly fee - $3,000 for LT and $10,000 for Pro.
If the board decided to sign up for one of the versions, Hirsbrunner said the district would save money by not having to print and mail "huge packets" to each board member before meetings, and it would also save time for Cindy Rupnow, the board's executive assistant. Rupnow said the postage cost $3 for each packet that was mailed for the Oct. 26 meeting.
"It adds up over time," Rupnow said.
Board members asked Hirsbrunner to bring the topic back at a future full board meeting with more information and a recommendation.
