MONROE - The Monroe school board unanimously approved bids for the clock tower restoration and Monroe Middle School partial roof projects at a school board meeting April 23.

B&B Quality Building Restoration of Wisconsin, Fitchburg, submitted the $157,000 bid approved and recommended by the finance committee for the clock tower restoration, and McDermaid Roofing and Insulation Co. of Rockford, Illinois, submitted the chosen $60,800 bid for a section of new roof at the middle school.

The two projects were targeted as part of the district's three-year referendum voters approved in November 2016. As a result, the school district's budget increased $1.5 million per year for operating costs, as well as $460,000 each year for maintenance and safety projects.

Monroe Business Administrator Ron Olson said the two projects will be completed this summer. After the two projects are complete, the district has about $130,000 left from the referendum money, Olson said.
