On Monday, March 23, the Monroe school board:

• Accepted retirements from Todd Trampe, Monroe High School English teacher, and Patra Smith, a teaching assistant at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy. Each has been with the district for more than 30 years.

• Learned the Finance Committee approved purchasing new English 9 and 10 textbooks for about $33,000 from McDougal Littel. Director of Curriculum and Instruction Jennifer Thayer said the textbooks being used are about 20 years old and falling apart. The middle school also uses the McDougal Littel textbooks, so there will be a progression of material with no overlap of reading selections between grades.
