MONROE - In a meeting Monday, March 10, the Monroe school board:

• Voted unanimously to add Brodhead to the Monroe boys hockey co-op for the 2014-15 season. Brodhead contacted the district about joining the co-op, but wanted to see if the board would approve them before taking it to their school board. Beloit Turner and Orfordville Parkview dropped out of the Monroe co-op and joined Beloit Memorial's hockey co-op.

• Approved the retirement of Steve Christensen, a Monroe virtual school teacher; Jerome (Romy) Cherney, an English teacher at Monroe High School and Linda Carl, a virtual school teacher. The three retiring have a combined 63.5 years of service.

• Monroe School District Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner informed the board that several track athletes would be going to the Kansas Relays for the second straight year during spring break. The Cheesemakers' 3,200 relay team won the championship at the Kansas Relays last year and were invited back. Hirsbrunner said the track athletes would not miss any school time and the families of the athletes would pay for the cost of the trip.
