MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the Monroe school board:

• Renewed the two-year contracts for all administrators except District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner. Salaries are still to be determined. Contracts were renewed for: Terri Montgomery, director of curriculum and instruction; Joe Monroe, director of pupil services; Ron Olson, business administrator; Chris Medenwaldt, Monroe High School principal; Jeriamy Jackson, MHS associate principal; Brian Boehm, Monroe Middle School principal; Matt Brown, MMS assistant principal; Sara Latimer, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School principal; Todd Paradis, Parkside Elementary School principal; and Amy Timmerman, Northside Elementary School principal. Hirsbrunner has already announced her intention to leave the district when her contract expires this summer.

• Was introduced to this year's AFS international exchange students. One of the students is from Germany and the other is from Brazil. A student from Monroe who visited France was also introduced.

• Recognized MMS special education teacher Lance Smith, the January recipient of the Lamp of Learning Staff Excellence Award.

• Approved the retirement of Jack Cuevas, MMS social studies teacher.

• Accepted a $1,000 donation from the Monroe Arts and Academic Booster Club for the MHS tech department and the following donations for the Backpack Buddies program: $485 from St. Victor School Penny War; $30 from Patricia Stearns; $55 and food from Monroe Woman's Club; $40 from Virginia Lee and Loretta Vesterdahl; $100 from Dennis and Maris Meier; $250 from Bob Sonnenberg in memory of Edna; $250 from Samantha Kubly; $500 from Barb and Mel Haug; $200 from Monroe Clinic; $50 from Lanz and McArdle; $50 from ABC Supply; $200 from James and Joanne Upman; $75 from International Ingredient Corporation; $100 from Westguard Sisters LLC; $1,000 from Crossroads Community Church; $500 from Klondike Cheese; $500 from Regez Supply; $4,000 from Morning Optimists; $500 from Betty Beaver; $500 from Badger State Ethanol; $100 from A-1 Electric; $25 from State Farm; $250 from Kennedy Family Foundation; $150 from Leisure Lanes; $50 from Marcia and Gary Wilhelms; $100 from PDC; $140 from Friends of Monroe Clinic; and $250 from Hedeman Real Estate LLC.

• Authorized the purchase of a kiln from Clay King for about $6,680 to replace an old one at the middle school.

• Approved alternative open enrollment requests by one student to leave the district and another student to enroll in the district.

• Heard updates from board members who attended the Wisconsin Association of School Boards annual convention last week.

About 11 members of the public attended the meeting in addition to the AFS students and their host families.
