Monroe School Board Bullets

On Monday, June 10, the Monroe School Board:

• Approved hiring Nicole Hahn as art teacher for Parkside Elementary School; Chelsea McColley, school psychologist; Haley Keiffer, sixth-grade teacher, Monroe Middle School; Toni Wellman, Parkside second-grade teacher and Britney O'Connell, Parkside first-grade teacher (one-year position) and Gail Murray, district K-5 instructional facilitator. It also accepted a resignation from Denise Plantenberg, Monroe Public Library and hired her as building/summer school secretary at Monroe High School. Heather Siedschlag was also hired as a bookkeeper for the District Administrative Center and the retirements of Linda Knepel, an aide at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy, and Jana Miller, Monroe Public Library, and the resignation of Lori Lawson, Parkside custodian, were accepted.

• Approved internal transfers for Bill Gross, from Parkside fifth grade to Monroe Virtual School; for Leigh Lierman, from Parkside second grade to Parkside fifth grade; and for Laura Skattum, from Parkside first grade to Northside first grade.

• Hired Michael Kaszube, Dustin Huffman and Bill Latimer as teachers at the Virtual School.

• Accepted a donation of $2,500 from the Morning Optimists for Camp Wyalusing. The Monroe Optimists donated $400 for the sixth-graders' field trip at the end of the school year and $700 for transportation for the Monroe Middle School Forensics Club to conference meets.

• Accepted the low bid from Schrenk Bros. Roofing for $9,900 for repairs to the roof at Parkside.

• Agreed to purchase 180 desktop computers from TRA, provided the company can deliver the Hewlett-Packard units within five weeks. The computers will replace aging units in elementary schools, as part of the district's plan to replace all computer equipment on a 5-year cycle. The district will also purchase 15 laptops for use in the Virtual School. Those will be purchased from Inacom for $14,640.
