MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the Monroe school board:

• Authorized hiring instructional staff member Brooke Tonyan, Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy special education, and support staff member Lisa Cleary, Abe Lincoln health assistant.

• Accepted a donation of $900 from Jacob's S.W.A.G. to sponsor a group of seven educators to attend the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Suicide Prevention Summit.

• Heard about Operation Click, a program meant to encourage teens to develop safe driving habits. Monroe High School Associate Principal Jeriamy Jackson said the program, sponsored by the Green County Sheriff's Department, will be student-driven. It will focus on getting students to wear seat belts, drive sober and not text while driving. In April, one student from the area will win a car at the annual awards banquet. MHS will apply for a grant through AAA to pay for incentives, such as T-shirts and gas cards, used during the program; there is no other cost to the district.

• Approved three alternative open enrollment out requests and 10 alternative open enrollment in requests.
