MONROE - At a meeting Aug. 10, the Monroe school board:

• Received information on the Smiles 4 Life nonprofit organization, which has worked with the Monroe school district for the last two years. The program provides oral health care, including screenings, teeth cleanings and fluoride varnish applications, for students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. According to the organization, 257 students in the Monroe school district have been enrolled in Smiles 4 Life. District Administrator Cory Hirsbrunner said the district isn't signed up yet for this year but looks like it will.

"It's a good service, I think, to our families," Hirsbrunner said.

• Accepted resignations from instructional staff members: Amanda Aird, Monroe High School science teacher; Mark Woelfel, Northside Elementary School fifth-grade teacher; Nicole Lutzke, Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy third-grade teacher; and Bridget Zach, Northside Elementary School third-grade teacher.

• Hired instructional staff members: Jennifer Henderson, MHS Spanish teacher; Kristen DuPuis, Northside fifth-grade teacher; Karin Carson, MHS math teacher; and Sadie Schwebach, Parkside Elementary School first-grade teacher. As of Aug. 10, the district had five positions left unfilled.

• Approved the resignation of support staff member Sandy Treuthardt, Abe Lincoln food service.

• Went into closed session to discuss administrative and exempt contracts and negotiations with Monroe Education Association.

Board member Dan Bartholf was absent.
