On Monday, April 14, the Monroe school district Board of Education:
Approved the final version of the 2008-09 school year calendar with minor changes from the version previously presented. The first day of school will be Tuesday, Sept. 2. The last day is scheduled for Monday, June 8. District Administrator Larry Brown said unfortunately, spring break is scheduled for March 16-20 which puts it between the girls and boys state basketball tournaments. However, there's always some conflict regardless of when breaks are scheduled.
Approved a leave of absence for Milo Whitehead, who works seasonally as custodian/lawn care.
Approved a three-year contract with TC Networks to provide IT management and support for a cost of $254,900. TC Networks and two other firms were interviewed and assessed in a formal scoring matrix, with TC Networks earning the highest overall score. The company provides similar IT services for the district for about $312,000 for this year, business manager Ron Olson said.
Congratulated and presented awards to the Monroe High School girls basketball team and coaching staff for winning the state title. The board also presented an award to Carissa Brooks, a Monroe Middle School student who won a state competition to design a flag.
