On Monday, April 12, the Monroe school board:

• Approved the first reading of the district's Emergency Safety Plan. The plan includes plans in the event of natural disasters, such as weather issues, and other emergencies, such as bomb threats. Some of the information will be available for the public, such as emergency phone numbers. Other parts of the plans, such as where parents and students will meet in the event of an emergency, will remain confidential. The final version of the plan will be approved in May.

• Approved buying 137 lockers for the third floor at the middle school from Marshfield Book and Stationery for a total of $15,400. The lockers will replace lockers purchased in 1978 or 1980, according to Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Tom Rufenacht. He originally budgeted $20,000 for the lockers, which will be replaced this summer.

• Accepted a donation of $200 from the Monroe Noon Optimist Club for the seventh grade; and $200 from the Junior Optimist Club for eighth-grade science.

• Accepted the retirement Dick Nelson, high school maintenance supervisor.
