MONROE - In a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:
Discussed a request by a resident to restrict parking in the area of Ninth Avenue and 16th Street. Police Chief Fred Kelley verified that temporary workers have been parking too close to driveways, fire hydrants and the intersection. During winter snows, parking on both sides of the street also creates a passage of less that 20 feet, too narrow for two vehicles to pass. Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said that is a concern for his department, which uses the route for responses with the ladder truck. The fire hydrant on the corner would be used for a working fire at Swiss Colony, he said.
As a result of the discussion, committee members recommended to eliminate parking on the north side of the 900 block of 16th Street and on the east side of the 1600 block of Ninth Avenue.
