Monroe police car involved in accident with motorcycle

MONROE - A Monroe Police vehicle struck and injured a motorcyclist Thursday morning at the intersection of 13th Avenue and 19th Street.

The police vehicle was a marked squad car driven by Officer Brent R. Krebs, 26, Monroe, who had stopped at 6:47 a.m. at the intersection while driving southbound on 13th Avenue, according to a press release from the Green County Sheriff's Department.

Krebs, who said he did not see any oncoming traffic, pulled into the intersection and into the path of an eastbound motorcycle on 19th Street. The motorcycle was driven by William E. Klein, 56, of Monroe. Unable to stop in time, Klein struck the squad car.

According to the release, Klein, who was wearing a helmet, sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were driven from the scene.
