TOWN OF MT. PLEASANT — A Monroe man with four drunk driving convictions on his record was arrested again for the same offense Aug. 29 after crashing into a utility pole near Monticello, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Mark A. Zakula, 67, was jailed pending an initial appearance in court on a fifth-offense charge of operating while under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

The accident was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the W4100 block of County C, Town of Mount Pleasant. Investigation showed Zakula was westbound when he lost control on a curve, went off the road and hit a utility pole.

Zakula reported no injuries. His airbags deployed, and the vehicle was towed. Monticello First Response and New Glarus EMS assisted deputies on scene.
