MONROE - A Monroe man faces charges filed Tuesday in Green County Circuit Court that he sexually assaulted two girls over the course of more than a decade.
Greg P. Gogin, 55, is charged with repeated sexual assault of the same child, first-degree sexual assault of a child and two counts of repeated sexual assault of the same child, all Class B felonies. He also faces three Class C felony counts of incest with a child.
Gogin allegedly began molesting the girls, now 19 and 20, when they were as young as 5 years old.
The younger of the two girls told an investigator in February that Gogin began having sexual intercourse with her shortly after she turned 11 years old and continued regular sexual contact with her through the end of 2014. She reported instances of sexual contact at Gogin's former home on Rothenbuehler Road north of Monroe, at a cabin in Waushara County, at a relative's home and on vacations.
Gogin told her repeatedly not to tell anyone what he was doing, according to police reports. He didn't threaten her, she said, but she was still afraid of telling anyone because at a young age she had witnessed him kick and beat her mother. She also said he hit her brother hard enough to permanently damage the boy's hearing.
The younger girl also reported that, after Gogin ejaculated inside her when she was 17, he ordered her to lie down in the shower while he poured a can of Coke or Diet Coke inside her vagina because "he was told it worked." She said the next day, and after another assault in which he ejaculated inside her, he gave her an unidentified pill to swallow and told her to be sure she didn't vomit within 24 hours.
The girls reported their experiences to authorities earlier this year after relatives learned of their allegations. The girls were interviewed separately and told an investigator they've suffered flashbacks, nightmares, depression and suicidal thoughts as a result of the abuse.
Gogin confessed to the sexual assaults in a phone call to his wife's sister, after he was confronted by relatives, according to a police report.
After the girls came forward with their allegations, Gogin moved from Monroe and is using an address on Beechnut Avenue near Beans Lake in rural Wautoma, according to court records.
"To the best of our knowledge, Gogin has not been arrested," Green County District Attorney Gary Luhman wrote in an email Tuesday evening to the Times. "He will be ordered to submit to fingerprinting and processing on the date of his initial appearance."
Gogin's initial appearance in court is set for 2:15 p.m. June 1. If convicted and punished to the full extent of the law, he faces imprisonment up to 40 years for each of the four Class B felony charges and 25 years for each of the three Class C felony charges.
While Gogin was still living in Monroe, he was an active member of the community. He was a Cub Scouts leader, Monroe Arts Center underwriter, YMCA board member and a member of the St. Clare of Assisi Parish council at St. Victor Catholic Church.
"He was a member of the parish council, but when all this began to become public, he was asked to step away," Father Larry Bakke, pastor of the parish, said Tuesday evening. The council Gogin served on is tasked with vision and oversight for the life of the parish.
Bakke said he's had some contact with Gogin in recent months but declined to go into detail.
"I can say that he has definitely sought lots of help," Bakke said.
Gogin has no criminal record in Wisconsin, according to the state court database. His wife filed for a divorce in January. The same month, he also had two temporary restraining orders filed against him in Green County.
