MONROE - A Monroe man was charged Wednesday with child abuse after he reportedly assaulted a young girl Sunday.

Shawn R. Kraemer, 41, was charged with child abuse, false imprisonment and strangulation, all Class H felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor counts of intimidating a victim and disorderly conduct.

According to a criminal complaint, Kraemer became involved in a verbal dispute with a 13-year-old girl at a residence in the N7000 block of County N, Town of New Glarus.

The girl said the dispute soon became physical when Kraemer pushed her into a wall and then to the floor, with her head striking both the wall and the floor.

Kraemer reportedly then sat on the girl, restraining her arms, and placed his hands on her neck, applying pressure and restricting her ability to breathe.

She said Kraemer also bit her on the finger and neck, pressed his hand against her mouth and gave her a bloody nose.

The maximum possible sentence for Kraemer's charges is nine years in prison.
