MONROE — A Monroe man found walking away from the scene of a rollover crash near Browntown was arrested on a felony drunken driving charge Sunday night, March 24, according to the Green County Sheriff’s Office.

Ted C. Henderson Jr., 52, was jailed on the fourth-offense charge of operating while intoxicated, after being treated at Monroe Clinic for non-life threatening injuries he sustained in the crash. He was also cited for driving with a revoked license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

Deputies responded at about 8:50 p.m. to a report of an unoccupied vehicle upside down and partially in the roadway in the N1400 block of Mellenberger Road, Town of Cadiz. Monroe EMS and the Browntown Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Deputies located Henderson several miles away walking along Wisconsin 11 near Dill Road and identified him as the driver of the overturned vehicle.

Investigation found Henderson was southbound on Mellenberger Road when he reported he swerved to miss a deer. His vehicle went into the west ditch, then returned to the road before again entering the ditch and hitting a tree stump. It then rolled and came to rest on its roof. It was towed from the scene with severe damage.

Henderson has three OWI convictions on his record, including his third in 2002 in Green County and his second in 1999 in Rock County.
