MONROE - A lengthy and ongoing criminal investigation into a Monroe man's alleged sexual assault of an unconscious woman means he will likely not go to trial until March, Public Defender Guy Taylor said.

Derek Larosh, 27, is accused of sexually assaulting a young Monroe woman while she was "blacked out" due to inebriation. Larosh is charged with Class C felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of an unconscious woman and second-degree sexual assault by use of force, as well as four misdemeanor counts of bail jumping.

Larosh appeared in Green County Circuit Court Tuesday and had a pretrial conference set for Feb. 3.

Guy Taylor said the case isn't "ripe yet" for trial as investigation is ongoing but added that they should be ready to move forward in March.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred July 27. Court records say Larosh met the alleged victim for the first time at a bar in Monroe and left the bar with the victim and a female companion to go to Larosh's parent's home so the victim could wait for a ride home. The companion could not arrange a ride and was going to walk home, so she asked Larosh if he would allow the victim to stay the night in separate rooms. The victim alleged Larosh was to sleep on the couch and she was offered his bed.

The alleged victim told police the next day she could not remember leaving the bar, but she did remember going up a set of stairs to Larosh's room. The victim told police she had bouts of consciousness throughout the night and she remembered Larosh assaulting her. She picked his photo out of an array of several photos given to her, and police then arrested Larosh.

Larosh's parents were home the night of the alleged assault and said they couldn't recall if Larosh brought the victim to their home. Larosh maintained that all sexual contact was consensual and that the alleged victim initiated contact.

Larosh's father posted his bond in August and he remains free with conditions that he not drink or have any contact with the alleged victim or the tavern.
