Monroe library launches campaign
Monroe Library

MONROE — The Monroe Public Library plans to renovate, with funds raised by a capital campaign called “Let’s Do Something Extraordinary for Monroe.”

Women from throughout Monroe have long been supporters of the public library and have a unique opportunity to lead the way on this project. The organizing committee seeks 100 “Extraordinary Women” to lead the campaign by raising $100,000 or more. This will have a long-term impact on the entire community, especially its children. The 100 Extraordinary Women Initiative asks a minimum of 100 women to each donate or pledge $1,000 over five years to sponsor the Circulation Desk in the renovated library.

Even though people often refer to the current building as the new library, it has not been renovated in almost 25 years. The needed renovations are all designed to make the library more welcoming and able to serve people in new ways that bring people together. The Library Board of Trustees and Staff surveyed the community, then developed plans to reflect the community’s perspective. The renovated building will enhance downtown and provide opportunities for people of all ages, encouraging people to move here and to stay here.

The total goal for the capital campaign is $1.5 million and fundraising will continue through 2021 with many opportunities to give and participate.
