MONROE - The City of Monroe found its new building inspector right in its own back yard.

Ryan Lindsey, Monroe, was hired by unanimous vote of the Common Council Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Lindsey will begin in his position as building inspector/zoning administrator at the beginning of March.

According to the new city government organizational chart approved by the Salary and Personnel Committee Tuesday, the building inspector and the city hall secretary, who form the building inspection and zoning department, will be under the city clerk's office.

Lindsey's starting salary will be $57,700 annually.

He will be given use of a city-owned, take-home vehicle, for use to and from work for the city and other official city business. He was also credited with seven years of service toward the vacation schedule.

Lindsey will also be allotted $2,500 annually for professional development expenses, subject to his supervisor's approval.

According to Martin Shanks, Monroe's assistant administrator, Lindsey served as an assistant building inspector for Fitchburg and as a part-time inspector for Brodhead.

Lindsey replaces Dave Powers, who retired in early January.
