Monroe doing maintenance on hydrants, sewers

MONROE - The City of Monroe water and wastewater departments will be performing routine maintenance on the collection and distribution system in 2017. This will involve hydrant flushing, valve turning, sewer jetting and sewer televising.

The following are approximate dates that the crews will be in each area doing sewer cleaning and televising.

• North 13th Street/East of 29th Avenue/South 8 1/2 Street: May 1- June 1

• South of 13th St./East of 28th Avenue, including 13th Street: June 1- July 1

• South of 13th Street/East of 23rd Avenue to 28th Avenue, including 13th Street: July 1- Aug. 1

• North 13th Street to 9th Street/East of 23rd Street to fairgrounds: Aug. 1- Sept. 1

• Hydrant flushing and valve turning will be ongoing from April 17 through Oct. 31.

Customers are reminded that some discoloration may occur in their water. The city says the water is safe and the discoloration is caused by encrusted minerals being flushed from the walls of the mains. To eliminate the discoloration, turn on the cold tap and let the water run until it runs clear.
