Monroe Common Council: Week of Dec. 2

MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3, the City of Monroe Finance and Taxation Committee:

• Voted unanimously to purchase solar shades for the council chamber windows at a cost of $5,650 from House to Home, Monroe. City Administrator Phil Rath said the funds would come out of the city hall maintenance capital account.

MONROE - At a meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 3, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Voted unanimously to pass the consent agenda, including $212,800 to pay bills.

• Recognized nine city employees for their years of service.

• Voted unanimously to set the annual salary for Jerry Dahlen, promoted to the position of police captain, at $61,535 (grade 18-step3), effective Dec. 4

• Voted unanimously to hire James Weigel, as a replacement water department operator, at a probationary wage rate of $19.23 per hour, effective on or before January 6, 2014.

• Voted unanimously to approve the salaries and wage rates for full-time, permanent department heads and non-represented personnel for 2014, effective Dec. 23 for first paycheck to be issued Jan. 9.

• Voted unanimously to approve miscellaneous wage rates for 2014.

• Approved unanimously Monroe Bible Church Drive-through Living Nativity from 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and 14 in Twining Park, and United Methodist Church Caroling on the Square with Candles from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 20 on the downtown Square.

• Voted unanimously to approve a Rural Fire Protection Services 5-year agreement with Monroe and Clarno townships, beginning Jan. 1, 2014. Each township will pay $21,600 annually for department response fees. Each will pay $10,000 in 2014 and $20,000 annually in 2015-2018 for department readiness fees.

• Voted 7-2 to authorize the Revolving Loan Fund Committee to grand final approval of a loan for $80,000 to Charlie's Mark Park. Brooke Baumann and Jeff Newcomer voted against.
