Monroe Common Council: Oct: 4, 2016

On Tuesday, the Monroe Common Council:

• Approved on an 8-0 vote a resolution outlining an 85-percent employer contribution and a 15-percent employee contribution for city employee and retirees' 2017 health insurance coverage.

• Held off on a measure increasing non-represented city workers 2016 compensation pay plan by an across-the-board percentage after the Salary and Personnel committee requested more time to develop policy for a more stable cost-of-living increase guideline.

• Authorized removing a no-parking zone in the 1400 block of 10th Street about 125 feet west from 15th Avenue. The zone reserved for a former funeral home no longer at the location.

• Granted a special event request to the Green County Family YMCA for a fall fundraiser festival along the 1300 block of 2nd Street in Monroe from 5-11 p.m. on Oct. 15. There was also a temporary class B fermented malt beverage and wine license given to the YMCA.

• Granted a special event request to St. Clare of Assisi Parish for a 100-year celebration run, including a 5K run and a 1-mile walk at the Stateline Ice and Community Expo Center on Oct. 22 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Authorized the purchase of Public Works equipment. The plans, with funds from the department capital fund, are to replace a 1997 and 2000 plow truck with two 2017 International trucks for $103,495, a 2017 1-ton truck to replace a 1998 1-ton truck and pre-approval to place a bid for a bucket truck up to $40,000 to replace the current 1981 truck.

• Granted a temporary class B fermented malt beverage license to Jacob's SWAG Foundation Inc. for Dueling Piano Fun Night at St. Victor's School gymnasium along 14th Street on Nov. 12 from 7-10 p.m.

• Heard concerns from alderman Charles Koch regarding yard clippings being thrown into the street, thereby increasing the amount of phosphorous in water run off going back into Honey Creek. Discussion will continue in the future as to how to enforce the ordinance which forbids this practice.
