MONROE - In a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Set a public hearing for Nov. 20 for the city 2013 budget.

• Approve $1.1 million for payment of bills.

• Approved Street Monroe Lighted Christmas Parade and Event for Dec. 7.

• Approved installation of a handicapped parking stall and signage on north side of 1700 block of 10th Street.

• Granted miscellaneous licenses.

• Approved unanimously a contract with Precision Drive and Control for design services and installing fluorescent lighting fixtures and other electrical upgrades in city hall and the police station/fire station #2 Hose Tower for $47,400 labor and $28,000 materials and tax.

• Approved unanimously plans for wastewater treatment plant upgrade and authorization to seek bids.

• Approved unanimously the 2013 airport operations contract.

• Tyler Schultz expressed appreciation to City Clerk Carol Stamm and her staff for their work on Election Day.

• Stamm thanked her staff and other community members for their help with a successful Election Day. A new online state system for registering voters, perhaps overwhelmed at the state level, did not work as well as expected, she added.

• Mayor Bill Ross read a proclamation declaring November as Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Monroe.

• Comptroller Bridget Schuchart announced that the city audit was complete and under an independent review by the auditors. The fund balances and other finance information will be available to the council before the public hearing and vote on the 2013 budget Nov. 20.

• Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor Alan Eckstein related his findings of potential savings if the city decides to alter the AECOM plans for upgrading the facility and address new DNR standards on phosphate limits.
