MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

• Heard about the Green County Sexual Assault Recovery Program from program coordinator Kathy Comeau.



MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, the City of Monroe Salary and Personnel Committee:

• Met in closed session to discuss collective bargaining strategy for 2013 union negotiations.



MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, the City of Monroe Finance and Taxation Committee:

• Discussed the status of the regional revolving loan fund forming and how it will impact the city's revolving loan fund program. No action was taken.

• Discussed re-implementing a payment in lieu of taxes for the Water Utility. No action was taken.

• Discussed rolling remaining budgeted funds from 2012 to 2013, to meet on-going financial needs of the Green County Historical Society museum building. The city owns the building and pays for heating costs.



MONROE - In a meeting Wednesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:

• Voted unanimously to set amounts of city contributions for health insurance. The city will contribute 88 percent of the surcharge and average premium costs for full-time employees and 25 percent or 50 percent for part-time employees.

• Voted unanimously to authorize utilities finance and budget manager, Renee Weaver, to become a full-time employee.

• Voted unanimously to approve $206,000 to cover bills.

• Denied a claim for $539 from Humana, surrounding a 2012 incident of a person allegedly tripping in a city street pothole.

• Denied a claim for $28,100 from Travelers Insurance, surrounding a 2011 incident of a person allegedly slipping on ice and falling at the city parks garage.

• Approved the installation of "school bus stop ahead" signs in the 1800 block of 27th Avenue.

• Approved installation of yield signs at the intersection of 20th Street and 12th Avenue.

• Granted miscellaneous licenses.

• Granted a temporary class B beer and wine license to Green County Habitat for Humanity for a Casino Night fundraiser which will be held Feb. 23 at St. Victor School.

• Discussed the lack of need for a spring primary for local municipal offices.

• Recognized City of Monroe employees for length of service.

• Recognized Russ Standiford for his retirement from the City of Monroe Police Department.

Mayor Bill Ross asked for a moment of silence during the opening of the meeting to remember Edward T. Reynolds, 50, Monroe, who died Wednesday, Dec. 26. Reynolds worked for the city as an engineering technician.

Alderman Tom Miller requested the city look at setting aside leftover funds from the 2012 budget to be used for the parking ramp upgrade.
