On Tuesday, the Monroe Common Council:
Granted a Class B liquor and fermented malt beverage license to Green County Smokeshack, a new restaurant being planned at 1609 10th St., on the northside of the Square. The restaurant was also granted a sidewalk cafe permit for three tables with four chairs each outside its business.
Approved a special event permit for the Green County Fair association to hold a Cheese City Challenge tractor pull from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at the fairgrounds. A permit for a beer garden at the event was also approved.
Granted a special event permit for the Minhas Oktoberfest Music Festival from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sept. 19. The 1200 block of 16th Avenue will be closed for the event.
Agreed to have city attorney Rex Ewald draft contingencies for an exemption to replace a septic tank rather than connect to city services. The property owner at 240 11th St. anticipates needing to replace the septic tank due to the system's age; the city normally does not grant exceptions but given the distance to the nearest sewer main and the fact that there are no plans to develop the property further, the Board of Public Works recommended an exception be granted.
