Monroe Clinic parking changes begin Monday

MONROE - Monroe Clinic is prepared to break ground on a new facility early next spring. But pre-construction site work will cause changes in visitor parking availability on the Monroe campus starting Monday.

The Clinic plans to re-do all the parking lots at one time.

The city's Plan Commission worked to get the smaller parking lots around the clinic and hospital into a General Business District zoning.

A larger employee lot on the east side of 22nd Avenue was given a conditional use permit to be enlarged, and to create narrower parking spaces. At a meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 10, the Plan Commission will discuss and possibly approve the conditional use permit to change a previously implemented limit on hours of operation.

Now, eight weeks later, with the City Council's approval of zoning changes and conditional use permits in hand, Monroe Clinic will start with the parking lot along 22nd Avenue east of the clinic building.

The lot will not be available for visitors beginning Monday and will be closed through the end of November. But the Monroe Clinic will post signs to indicate which lots are available for visitor parking.

Twenty-second Avenue will remain open; however, there will be periodic construction traffic and limited access to parking. Campus access via 20th Avenue is encouraged.

Monroe Clinic is offering valet service at the clinic and hospital main entrances as well as shuttle service throughout the parking lots.

The shuttle will operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Guests who need assistance getting to their vehicles after 4 p.m. can make arrangements through their shuttle driver for valet service.

Valet service is available from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the hospital's main entrance and from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the clinic's main entrance.
